Town Hall to discuss downtown exclusion zone

Monday, February 5, 2018 - 17:30
1112 W 9th St, The Dalles, OR 97058

Please attend tonight's town hall, Monday night, Feb. 5, to provide public comment on The Dalles City Council's plans for an exclusion zone in downtown The Dalles. The meeting begins at 5:30 p.m. in the Mid-Columbia Senior Center.

"Monday’s town hall... regards a proposal by city staff to ban anyone who commits one of a list of 24 crimes for 90 days from two zones... The two proposed civil exclusion zones are contiguous and take in the downtown blocks, from Taylor Street on the east, to East Third Street on the south, and continues westward along West Second, and West Sixth, ending at Webber on the west end. Its southerly border is West Eighth Street."

These blocks are where many homeless go for support and shelter, including the only local warming center at St. Vincent DePaul. This is not a solution to the problem of homelessness but a criminalization of those suffering from poverty and mental health issues. Show up and let your elected leaders know what kind of community we wish to cultivate in The Dalles.
